Fire

 

I really like this because it is fire and i have a liking to fire and just watching it.  I like the colors that can come from it.  Not only the fire but also the smoke that comes from it.  You get so may different abstract designs.  I really like the outer glow that the fire girl has it breaks up the black background and the fire on her.  So you dont have just the outline of her with the fire.  This shows some warm colors because of the red, yellow, and orange on her body.

Dragon

I really like the colors on this bookcover.  It is has a nice cool color palette.  The colors work well together.  You have a red that sets off the guy with the background.  The book cover goes well as a front and back cover for the book.  It doesnt look like two different ideas but one complete idea.

Names

 

I was doing some research for my book cover that i was doing for project 4 and i found this.  I like how it is has the names of dragons.  The shape of the book is really cool cause it is in the shape of a dragon.  I know the graphic design isnt just advertisements and picture but it can be many things.  it could be a pamphlet. 

Mouth

 

I really like this because it reminds me of a smoking ad.  One because the smoke coming out of one of the mouths, one has a discolored tooth, and the one with lip slouching down.  But it could also be for a rocker cd cover.  It almost reminds me of The Rocky Horror Picture Show because of the beginning with just the mouth singing.  But i really like the colors that are being used in the photo. 

Paint

 

What really got me on this one is the color balanced with the white of the guy and the red of the paint.  Not really advertising anything.  The red with the white is a good way to balance the picture out.  I almost want to know what is he suppose to be throwing the paint on.

Mouse

 

Ok not only did i find this funny but it has to do with optical supplies.  It was a clever way to get advertisement out.  I know not may people would find this funny but looking at the same thing day in and day out you get bored with the same things.  So when you find something this outrageous you cant help but post it or share with someone.

Coke

I think that this is a cool idea.  It is a well known product that everyone knows.  If you drink this on a normal bases then you might be one of the reasons why you drink it.  Me on the other hand i dont like diet soda but i thought just the layout for the page was really good.  It has a nice flow with the top wordings next to the straw that leads down to the glass.

Book Cover

This is the book that I have chose to do for project 4.  To me books could mean multiple things.  To me it doesnt say time machine.  I do like the font that they used, to me that is more dated then the books in the background.  My mom had this book cover then when i asked for it we could not find it so i had to pull the picture off of amazon. 

Darth Vader

Ok this is just awesome.  I had to post it cause one it has hot sauce and two Darth Vader.  I do like hot sauce but Red Hots, so i think this works well together.  The color chose if dark like the dark side of the force.  The placement of the wording is just like the words that scroll in the films so it is familiar. 

COW

I think it would be really funny to see a cow on a tampaline and use it like it is really suppose to be used.  I think they did really well playing with the wording "The Real Milkshake."  The color is more of a spring/summer feel to it cause that is normally when you want something really cold like a milkshake.

Phones

I think that this is a cool idea that they used the cell phones to make the devil horns for rock music.  I think it would of been better if they would of used new phones that are more capable if performing that action.  But with the contrast of the colored phones it makes the palm of the hand and the other silver ones the fingers. It caught my attention because im a big rock fan and the color of the picture.

Fed Ex

I saw this ad for Fed Ex and was laughing because i get in tons of packages from FedEx and they do not look that perfect.  In fact that goodness for the packaging around the product cause if it didnt have that then i would know for sure it would be broken.  And i dont know if i would trust Fed Ex enough to send out a glass vase.  But the idea is a nice one.

When I was taking graphic design history we looked at all these posters.  I would have to say that the way the layout is in a grid pattern.  With the people in the middle of the poster really set off the letters and the people makes it followable.  From the hand of the lady with the fan it flows in a c shape to her foot which makes for an easy line to follow.  The place is important so it is in a bold  and big so it can be seen.

Vintage Poster

I was looking for something that was vintage for a fresh look instead of the normal day to day things you see all the time.  What really stood out in my mind was the way the women is standing is like a wine glass.  It is well contained in the middle of the poster.  The award that they got is in the upper right hand corner makes a nice shadow in the background that goes with the womens shadow. 

Rainbow

 

I find this to be interesting because of the radial that they use.  The over lapping in the middle helps moves the eyes around the circle and the circle under the color pencils contants the over lapping.  I would of never really thought of to take an image of color pencils and what looks like them sitting in a cup to get an interesting compititon.

Purple

 

I found this one just surfing around on the web.  I find it to be true because if you just have a set of information on a page in one big huge paragraph, then it will be boring.  It is up to the graphic designer to make that information easier to read and less boring.  Like this picture that i found with using different shades of purple and the staggering of the words makes it more interesting then just one straight line that is black and white.

Mask

 

I think that this compostition really works cause of the grouping that is going on.  I like how the word masking is a different color and sticks out cause i think it goes along with the temple dog mask.  With the background being dark and the words and the mask being so bright you can tell what is important.  I really also like the saying.  You really are masking your ideas by all the work that goes behind it to make it unify and balance.

gum pack

 

 

This ad really works cause what needs to be important is in bold and everything else is more toned down.  With the minimal wording it doesnt get confused with unwanted saying.  The message in this ad is loud and clear.  It is also nice to see some of the things you would normally see in a pocket, and compare the size to the pack of gum.  But i dont think you can really fit all that stuff in a jean pocket. So there is some stretch of reality in this ad.

hair dye

 

In this ad from a magazine i was really drawn to the split of the pictures with the type in the middle.  It is a bold lettering to use since you dont see it on a day to day bases.  The missing lines in the a's almost gives it a since that it is washed away.  The placement of the hair dye rod is also a good because it is pointing at the sentence that goes along with the object. 

Mayhem

 

 

I really like this magazine cover because it is well structured.  The placement on of the bands names with the name of the magazine make a nice frame for the skeleton.  It is also a nice placement of the hand in the front bigger then the skull in the background.  The y in Mayhem is a nice split on the cover, to make a nice flow to the middle of the page.

Words

This is an interesting piece that was done by Paula Scher.  I really like this because she uses words in a playful way.  With they way that the words are angled and the way the words are outlined in stead of solid.  I think that having the two different color fonts really helps the compostion out because it highlights the parts of the piece that is represented all through out it.  If you have so many words you need some of them to stick out so you know what is the main focal point is.

Balanced

I think this is a good example of balanced.  You can fold the paper in half vertically and it will be perfectly matched up.  I like the way that this looks like something you would see out of a sci-fi move or manga.  It has that organic floral that is repeated through out the piece and it starts out small and together and as it gets towards the bottom of the page it opens up.  I think that they used the color well in this piece also.

Spiral

I really like this picture becuase it shows a since of movement with the lines in a geometric shape.  To me it looks like stairs with the way the lines are.  I think what would make the picture better is if it would start off lignt and as it went tighter it would get darker to show more of a depth to picture. 

Drawing

I think this drawing goes along with the lesson plan that we are learning about this past week.  I did this compostion many times over with different shapes and sizes but i really like the triangles.  It has some unity through grouping.  It is chaotic yet it works well as a whole.  It plays with geometic shapes and the negative space that they can form by over lapping one another.
